It is interesting that I don't read tarot because I certainly paint it. Perhaps it was the way I was feeling that day or the clock face itself but when I found this old ornate German clock face at the flea market I instantly knew it needed a hanged man tarot on it. The hanged man is not sad or hurt- rather he is in a bliss of limbo- between this and that or about to start something. My symbolism is traveling though, as the raven is representative of Odin, the original hanged man. Interestingly I was inspired years ago to paint a watercolor of "the Lovers" card based on old German tarot cards. Wonderful that we live in a time when there is such a plethora of imagery to be mixed from so many old cultures.at any rate the Hanged Man is about a foot high and three inches deep. oil on wood and metal.  The gold detailing on the sides shown here is borrowed from the clock face itself.
